Stalking stealthily over the stones marking the barren land, I had my nose held low to the ground as I stalked prey, following the scent that it had left behind while travelling across the lands. I had been tracking the beast for about twenty minutes and my concentration was quite apparent as I focused my eyes only on the path ahead, studying for a sign of movement anywhere among the trees or on the horizon. My ears were pricked forwards and my large paws hardly touched the stones as I glided across eagerly, yet carefully. So far I had made hardly a sound and all the stones were in place as if no one had past. I halted abruptly as I had done every ten meters, standing with my head held high and nose to the air, eyes scanning my surroundings from a higher view. A worms eye view did not cover quite as much ground. My sharp eyes, like black holes, took in the scene. My eyes were now upon the dark figure of a deer as it drank from the pond. The only source of water, of course. My eyes narrowed and stalking closer to the pond, I had not yet been seen by my prey. The beast drank deeply after escaping my clutches for more than twenty minutes. It was not easy to find a scent in a place where the breezes did not flow, avoiding the area and flowing high above our heads.
The deer lifted it's majestic head. It's antlers jutting out menacingly into the sky but it's doe-like eyes were what gave it such an innocent appearance. I cared not for it's life as my stomach knotted itself over, craving food urgently. I did not wait any longer. I approached at a walk, stalking close to the ground and hanging my head level with my knees. The deer watched me cautiously, snorting and staring wide eyed as it's enemy approached. A sly expression creeped into my eyes as I launched myself closer, just enough to give the deer a jolt, as it would seem. From this distance and angle, surely I would not have been able to land myself on the deer. But as I predicted the deer bolted and landed right in my clutches, stepping in my direction instead of running free. My claws dug into the beasts shoulder muscle, my snout parting and catching the deers throat in my jagged canines.
When I had taken my fill from a successful hunt, I trotted over to the pond. I dipped my blood soaked muzzle into the water, having taken in a breath as not to suffocate myself. Once the blood was off I lapped up the water. The taste of blood not bothering me, obviously, and drinking heavily. My hunt had left me parched and the water running down my previously dry throat was soothing to the very touch. But wait...I was not alone.
